Make the Investment

So many times in the business world, we hear the phrase “You need to invest in your Community” tossed around. But what does that really mean? Some of the first questions that come to mind are:

  • “Why should I invest?”
  • "Where should I invest?”
  • “What do I have to offer?

Community Investment is an important facet of our business here at Milano & Grunloh Engineers, LLC, and we would like to share our thoughts on the questions posed above.

“Why should I invest?”  Your community becomes desirable to new business, health care, manufacturing, shopping, and education opportunities, just to name a few.  Growth in these areas make your community more desirable to the skilled labor force needed to fill employment needs, which then leads to home building and buying.  All of these things boost the economy, which is good for everyone.

“Where should I invest?”  That depends on you.  Are you concerned about health?  There are many local charities and health care facilities that need your assistance.  Are you concerned about skilled labor?  Schools of all levels are struggling and could benefit from your contribution.   Are you concerned about the appearance of your community?  Plug in with local groups to beautify your community.  What speaks to your heart?  Once you answer that question, the best thing to do is communicate your concerns to others in the community.  This will not only provide leads as to where you can invest, it also  increases awareness of the need to others.

“What do I have to offer?”  Your investment can take many forms.  The first that usually comes to mind is a financial investment or donation, which is vital, but not always an option for smaller businesses.  The most overlooked investment is time.  Volunteer your time and give your employees time off to volunteer.  So many organizations are understaffed and kept afloat by one or two key persons that would welcome your assistance with open arms.  Another often overlooked investment is sharing your knowledge.  Offer to teach a skill or trade, give a seminar, or host an education event in your field of expertise.

Effingham and the surrounding areas have supported Milano & Grunloh Engineers, LLC since 1979 and it is our honor to be able to give back to these communities by supporting:  Effingham County Relay for Life, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Catholic Charities, Effingham County CEO Program, Construction Trades Education Curriculum, and several area school education and sport funds, to name a few.  But what we are most proud of is our employee’s investment in the community.  We encourage them to be involved and are happy to extend to them the time off to volunteer for causes important to them.

We’ve only just scratched the surface on this topic, but we hope it’s one that is as important to you as it is to us. Milano &  Grunloh Engineers, LLC encourages you to “MAKE THE INVESTMENT”, you will be glad you did.
