Village of Strasburg - Watermain Replacement

The Village of Strasburg’s water distribution system experienced over 30 leaks in the last 2 years.  The Village lost over 20% of the water produced.  The Village knew they had to  address the problems which were causing a huge inconvenience to its residents in addition to being a threat to the health and safety of the residents.  To help make the improvements affordable, the Village planned to replace all the watermain in the Village in 2 phases utilizing DCEO & Rural Development funding.  The Village has secured a $450,000 DCEO grant and completed Phase 1.  The DCEO grant for Phase 2 will be applied for in 2016, and if funded, construction will be completed in 2018.  Rural Development funding was utilized as leverage funds with the total project cost at approximately 1.3 million.

Milano & Grunloh Engineers, LLC helped the Village secure the DCEO & Rural Development funding, and completed design engineering, permitting, and bid documents for the project, as well as providing construction observation.

Village of Dieterich - Sanitary Sewer Improvements

The Village of Dieterich is a growing village in      Central Illinois. Due to growth and age, the Village’s facultative lagoon was not providing adequate treatment. The Village evaluated an aerated        lagoon and an activated sludge plant as alternatives. Due to maintenance and capital cost, the   Village selected an aerated lagoon to provide   sewage treatment for the Village into the future.   Milano & Grunloh Engineers, LLC provided the       design, permitting, and construction guidance,    resident engineering and inspection for this project.

Lake Sara Area Water Cooperative West & South Loop

Lake Sara Area Water Cooperative has begun construction on approximately 9 miles of watermain loop to better serve their customers with a reliable service of potable water. Kieffer Brother Construction from Mt. Carmel, Illinois was the successful contractor. The  project is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2016. Milano & Grunloh Engineers, LLC assisted with design,   permitting, and construction inspection for the project.

Village of Dieterich - Lift Station

The Village of Dieterich experiences large infiltration problems and multiple maintenance issues with their lift station.  Milano & Grunloh assisted the Village in securing a DCEO grant and leverage funding from South Central Regional Planning.  Milano & Grunloh completed plans, specifications, permits and construction engineering.  The project was constructed in 2009/2010.

Town of Mason - Sewer Lagoon

The Town of Mason’s Sewer Lagoon and Lift Station is over 30 years old and was in dire need of being rehabilitated.  Milano & Grunloh assisted the Town with securing a DCEO design grant and completed bid specifications, plans and permits for the projects.  The Town secured leverage money from Rural Development and secured a DCEO construction grant in February 2009 with assistance from Milano & Grunloh Engineers.  Construction was completed in 2010 / 2011.

Village of Shumway - Sewer System

The Village of Shumway utilizes individual septic disposal systems either with or without seepage fields for waste disposal.  These discharges result in ponding sewage in the ditches leading to threats of health and safety.  A new sewer system was constructed in 2006.  Milano & Grunloh assisted in securing funding for the project and completed the planning grant, design, permitting, and construction observation.

Effingham Waste Water Plant

This project consists of major improvements to the City of Effingham waste water treatment facilities.  The improvements included a new screen, new grit collection equipment, a new activated sludge oxidation ditch, new secondary clarifier equipment, a new return sludge pumping station, new sludge transfer pumps, anaerobic digester improvements, new sludge storage tank, and all piping, fitting, site work, excavation, backfill, electrical work and demolition.

Milano & Grunloh, along with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly of Springfield, Illinois, provided the design, permitting, specifications and construction inspection for this new facility.  James R. Hann of Milano & Grunloh was the Resident Engineer during the construction of the plant.  This plant serves both rural and residential areas of Effingham County.  The cost of the project was $6,750,000.

Village of Watson - Lagoon

The sewage treatment system at Watson, IL consisted of a three cell lagoon system that was overloaded.  The project consisted of doubling the capacity on the existing site.  Milano & Grunloh provided planning services, design services and construction engineering services to increase the capacity by adding aeration with floating aerators and removing the submerged sand filter and installing rip rap around the lagoons, new piping and a rock filter.  Milano & Grunloh also provided financial planning to utilize Illinois Environmental Protection Agency revolving loan funds for this project

EJ Water Cooperative - Gila Water Treatment Plant

The Gila Water Treatment Plant is EJ Water Cooperative, Inc.’s second water treatment plant in the past five years. The water treatment plant has a capacity of 1.5 MGD and a 1 MGD ground storage tank. Milano & Grunloh Engineers, LLC assisted with obtaining funds, surveying, design, and construction inspection. The plant started providing water in the fall of 2015. The project was funded with Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunities and USDA Rural Development funds.

Fayette Water Company

Fayette Water Company began in 1991 and currently supplies over 1,200 customers with potable water.  Milano & Grunloh Engineers began working for Fayette Water in 2010 and has assisted with permitting, acquiring easements, applying for grants and loans and all of the engineering and surveying for the company.
